Perform a ink quality test.
At the end if there are missing lines in the test print it will ask if you would like to perform a cleaning cycle. This process dumps ink into some internal inkwells. If the ink quality doesn't improve it might be because the ink head is touching the ink in the inkwells

If that doesn't work the head might need to be manually cleaned

In the instructions there are two approaches to cleaning. Stage 2 cleaning involves pushing cleaning fluid through the ink tubes using a syringe as in this [youtube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbqlxxPka-0). This is not suitable for our Brother printer. Instead we can use the Stage 1 cleaning method which is to
- put some absorbent paper towel under the print head
- soak it with cleaning fluid
- lift the towel up and around the print head so that it will make contact
- leave the cleaning fluid in place for 30min
The cleaning fluid will be stored with the printer ink cartridges in the stationary cabinet.
